Ants on Fire

To enlarge this image, just close your eyes and believe.
That, or click it.

Almost one hour from missing the deadline. I have spent my entire day working on this, and I really want to do something else now.

Also, I missed last week's comic and the Possum Tails one-year anniversary. Or the anniversary of its revival, anyway. It's been a crazy couple of weeks.

Next week, I'm going to try and kick off what will be by far the biggest series yet. Here's hoping I can get back on track and stay there. See you then!

No Showers for Algernon

Sometimes you just gotta roll up your sleeves and click to enlarge.

It took nearly a year, but Al's finally been reintroduced into the strip!

In addition to that, I finally finished the Possum Tails font. It didn't come out like I hoped it would... Inserting a space creates a huge, awkward chasm between the words, so I've been having to insert and erase hyphens in order to get the right amount of space. It's much easier than drawing each individual letter though, so I'm grateful for that!

Next Friday, new comic. See you there!

Owl's Well that Ends Well

Things too small to read even after clicking to enlarge? Fret not, a link to a larger view will be provided below.

(Part 6 - Finale)

All these years and I've finally finished this series (although this particular comic was only written a few months ago - the series originally ended with the fifth comic).

Disclaimer: Possum Tails is a work of fiction, and the cartoony high jinks within should not be emulated in real life. Never let your pets play in the freezer. Or walk on two legs and speak English. If you catch them in the act, make sure to call them out on it or they'll never learn.
(Although if the pet in question is a bird, you can allow them to walk on two legs and speak. Just don't let them get too uppity about it - birds are arrogant enough as it is.)

Before I start on the next comic, I really need to get to work on making a Possum Tails font. I figure getting that done will save me a lot of time and grief with lettering.

Be sure to tune in next week!

True Friendship Never Dies

You should Click to Enlarge this thing. Just sayin'.

(Part 5)

You may have noticed that "Sunday" comics haven't been coming out regularly anymore. When making series like this, it's very difficult to work with the last-week-of-every-month cycle, so I just make them whenever they match up with the joke. Good news though, tomorrow will be a "Sunday", and the finale to this series! (But not the last time we'll see Eddie.)

Same time, same place, new comic. See you then!

What a Hoot

Should you Click to Enlarge? Yes.

(Part 2)

I've gotten a lot of practice thanks to the daily drawings I've been doing since January - all that work has definitely paid off. This week I've been making an effort to put more time in with drawing and getting stuff done. So far so good - I got this comic finished, rebuilt my buffer for daily drawings (I was barely squeaking by for the last month), and started a Possum Tails Tumblr! If you have a tumblr account and don't want to bother with Facebook or Blogger, I'd recommend following it. For now I'm just airing older comics there, but it'll catch up after a month or so.

I've been making the comics for this series in a "Sunday" fashion with shading and other fanciness, simply because I can. It takes quite a bit longer, but I like how it looks. I've found that listening to podcasts while drawing makes it go by a lot quicker.

The difference between this comic and the original (6/5/11)?

Significant.

Stay tuned - new Eddie comic comin' atcha next Friday!

What's In the Fridge?

Do the opposite of not clicking to enlarge.

(Part 1)

If this comic confuses you, it's kind of doing its job. There's not really a punchline here, I'm just kicking off another series.

In other news, Possum Tails is back from its month-long hiatus. I think I learned a bit about perspective over the break. A little bit, anyway. But I can draw the fabled other side of the classroom now, so that's pretty exciting.

If you're wondering why there's a dead owl in the freezer, that's a very reasonable thing to wonder. Owls don't usually inhabit freezers. Even Snowy Owls, which don't seem too bothered by the cold, rarely congregate between the ice cream and tv dinners.

Truth is, Eddie is based off another dead freezer owl by the same name that resided in the real-life Animal Care Class freezer. If I'm remembering the story right, someone called the school about an owl that had flown into a telephone wire, and they came to pick it up. I guess the plan was to use the owl (which didn't survive the accident) for educational purposes or have him stuffed or something, but for whatever reason he was just left in the freezer. Don't worry though, he wasn't alone in there. He had the company of some gouldian finches, a nile monitor, and countless mice and rats. It was kind of a neat little dead petsicle community they had going. Plus, the canned mealworms were chilling out just one room below.

Between the scientific mounts on the walls, the owl in the freezer, the hippo skull on the table, and the daily feederfish, mealworm, and cricket massacres, Animal Care Class had a lot of death in it. But I suppose that's all part of life.

Oh, and for those who are curious, Eddie is portrayed here as an Eastern Screech Owl. (I can't remember the real Eddie's species, it's been too long.) I might try to write about them later.

The series will continue next week. See you then!
